in Bike Rack

Biking has become more and more popular over the years due to the fact that it is a great source of exercise as well as an easy way to save money on high gas prices. Since not every area is bike friendly it is essential that you have some sort of bike rack for your car so that you are able to transport your bicycle. Unfortunately, many people make mistakes when they buy bike racks for cars. The following is a list of mistakes that you can make sure to avoid with your next bicycle rack purchase, and you can ready my other post on vehicle bike racks as well.

1. Getting a bike rack that scratches your car.

If you are not really careful there is a very good chance that a new bike rack that cannot be secured very well to the car will move around and rub the paint. This can be greatly exacerbated if your car is dirty and the dirt acts like sandpaper from the constant rubbing from the bike rack. This is most common with strap trunk mount bicycle storage racks, as they hook on with a clip and require the straps to be tightened correctly.

2. Buying the wrong type of bike rack for car.

There are two main types of bike storage systems for your vehicle. There is a rear mount rack that can be attached to your trunk were a trailer hitch, and there are roof racks that go above your car. Often someone will buy a roof rack and then realize that they need more than two bikes to be able to be transported. Unfortunately, at that point it is too late. In addition, a trunk mount bike rack for a car can be much less expensive and save the buyer money if it meets all of their needs.

3. Not having enough bicycle storage on their rack.

At first you may think that you only need enough storage to transport two bikes on your car, but you may quickly find out that having one or two more is really beneficial without being drastically more expensive. Keep in mind that you may invite friends or other family members along for a bike ride in which case you’ll need to make sure that you can attach three or more bicycles to your vehicle.

These three mistakes are very common for people that are new to purchasing bike racks for cars. Make sure that you do not make these mistakes and you will be much happier with your final purchase. Now that you know what to avoid, find the perfect piece of bicycle storage for your car.
