Bicycles and cars have one thing in common: the ability to transport people from one place to another. But they differ in the way they’re stored. Cars are parked in a garage, so they’re protected from damaging elements. But bikes have to make do with the little space provided for them—they’re either left leaning on a wall or lying on the floor. Bikes need proper storage just as cars do. If you own a bike, make sure that it gets a garage-like protection so that it can last for years. There are three bike storage options that you can choose from: storage sheds, overhead storage, and wall mount storage.
Option 1: Storage Shed
Do you have a storage shed at home? Then allot some space for your bike. Instead of staying in the garage, your bike can have a space of its own. Plus, you get more space in your garage once you have removed your bike from there.
If you don’t have a storage shed, it might cost you a lot to build one. Making a storage shed, aside from being expensive, requires adequate yard space. If it’s not possible for you to make a storage shed, then use other options for storing your bike.
Option 2: Overhead Storage
Overhead storage means mounting your bike to the rafters or ceiling of your garage. That way, the bike is protected inside the garage. Also, it can save you space because the bike is not lying around the garage floor. However, make sure that your bike is mounted in such a way that you won’t bump your head on it every time you’re working in the garage.
Option 3: Wall Mount Storage
A wall-mount type of bicycle rack is another common way to store your bike. Unlike the overhead storage type, you need not lift a big, heavy bike to store it and to retrieve it. Some bicycle racks can hold multiple bikes, and these racks are great if you have bike-riding friends who are coming over at your house.
However, wall mount storage for bikes is not as space efficient as the overhead storage type. With the bike hanging on the wall, the floor area beneath it becomes unusable.
In a nutshell, your bike needs to be stored properly to prevent damage and theft. If your garage is already cramped, you can use either overhead or wall mount storage types to maximize garage space.
Mounting tools such as hooks, overhead hangers, and wall hangers are available in various shops at affordable costs. Investing in these bike storage tools is indeed a wise idea to keep your bike protected from the elements.
